Forth Wanderers 1-0 Greenock Juniors
Central Cup 3rd Rnd Match

Greenock's new boy Wilson in action
Greenock travelled through to Forth in this League Cup 3rd round tie. On probably one of the worse parks in junior football Greenock were to come unstuck once again du to not taking their chances. The only goal of this game arrived after only 3 minutes when a deep cross from the right hand side was met by Forth's big Striker who headed back across Meechan. Greenock had made several changes to their side for this match with new signing Derek Wilson coming in for his debut and Ole Gilberg returning to the starting line up in an Attacking role. After the early setback Greenock took control of proceedings for virtually the remainder of the match. The opposition tried their best ot make it easier for the Greenock side when their centre half was ordered off for head butting Greenock striker Mark Bowie. Greenock conitinued to press and the best opportunity of the first half fell to Andy Monaghan when the ball fell to him after a goal mouth scramble but the Forth Keeper somehow managed to save his goalbound effort from 6 yards. Despite the pressure Greenock never created anymore clear cut opportunities.
Half-time 0 - 1
The second half took continued as the first finished with Greenock on the offensive. John Roberston had came on to replace the injured Stewart Jack as Greenock searched for the equaliser. Graham Black also entered the frey shortly after half time for Gilberg. Black almost levelled things with his first touch when a cross from the left somehow made it's way through to him at the back post, but his snatched shot from 3 yards out came crashing back off the crossbar and away to safety. Andy Monaghan was next to threaten when Black sent him clear through. Unfortunatley on the bobbly surface Monaghan couldn't get the ballout of his feet and the keeper managed to force him wide and the opportunity was lost. Monaghan again had the chance to get the equaliser when Black got free on the left and cut the ball back to Monaghan on the penalty spot but his side footed effort was blocked by one of the many home defenders. Greenock had countless efforts from outside the box but failed to test the home keeper. With time almost up Forth almost scored their second when a fast break saw there centre mid clean through on Meechan. He was then brought down by the chasing Martin Power but the Referee waved aside the strong and justified protests. On the day Greenock put in what was probably their worst performance this season and the only plus point to come out of the day was the performance of new boy Wilson and the fact it's now one less game that has to be squeezed in.
