Aberdeen East End 0 - 2 Greenock Juniors
OVD Junior Scottish Cup R1

Greenock goal scorer John Paul Dow holding the ball up.
Greenock progressed into the 2nd round of the OVD Junior Scottish Cup after a very well disciplined and fine performance against their Aberdeen counterparts. After a very long journey you would have thought Sandy MacLean's selected 11 would have felt tired but that was not the case as Greenock won every battle and controlled the game all over the park. The first chance of the match fell to the 'on fire' Greenock marksman Monaghan but he dragged his shot wide of Christie's right hand post. Thomas Docherty then fired in a telling cross but finds his front men flat footed with no one there to convert. The first goal arrives on the half hour mark and it was one worth waiting for as Monaghan crossed into the box Gordan Lappin's step over eluded the home defence and John Paul Dow was on hand to crack the ball home from a tight angle. Lappin then cracked the bar with a fierce drive that had Christie scrambling and then just before half time Monaghan hits another shot wide.
Half Time 0 - 1
Greenock started the second well with Docherty having lots of success down the right wing against MacLean as did McLachlan on the left. Stewart Jack entered the fray and nearly had his team mates two up but his strike rebounded of the bar and Adams was on hand to clear the danger. A slip by McAllister allows Hay to run at Monk but the Greenock stopper stood his ground well as he saved Hay's strike. Jack then had another effort from the edge of the 18 yard box but just crazed Christie's right hand post. Then from a quick corner Black fired over from 12 yards. The second goal duly arrived on the hour mark as Dow fed his strike partner Andy Monaghan to slid the ball under Christie at the second attempt after his initial shot was saved. Greenock's back three of McAllister, McIlvogue and McMillan done extremly well up against the very aggressive and may I add stupid Aderdeen forward Hay who only seemed interested in starting a riot. Flynn was impressing in the midfield role vacated by Power and done his cause no harm with his grit and determination. Greenock's final chance of the match fell to McIntyre but Christie saved well to keep the score down.
