Greenock Juniors kicked of their pre-season run of games with a convincing victory over premier outfit Beith. New signings McMillian, McIntrye and the returning Monaghan excelled in their debut’s. Greenock started brightly and were in front as early as the 3rd minute. A Robertson short corner found Gault, his teasing cross was met by Gordon Lappin who slotted home at the front post. The second arrived 10 minutes later from the penalty spot as Aldo McIntyre’s heels were clipped from behind the referee didn’t hesitate in pointing to the spot, up stepped Gordon Lappin to score his and Greenock’s second. New signing Aldo McIntyre added a third 2 minutes later from a sweetly struck effort 25 yards out to leave the keeper ‘routed to the spot’. Greenock took their feet of the gas and allowed Beith to creep back in with the trialist keeper pulling off a few fine saves from Beith’s No 8 and a low free-kick from Beith’s left-back. A few dangerous crosses into the Greenock box where easily cleared away by the towering McMillian. No 4 arrived on the stroke of half-time, a throw in on the left hand side from Barnes found McIntyre who’s neat pass found Andy Monaghan who unleashed a powerful strike to leave the keeper with no chance.

Changes were made at half-time by both club’s on came Dow & Black for Monaghan & McIntyre. Beith started the second half well on top and got back into the match in 50 minutes, from a deep cross Martin Stewart was on hand unmarked at the back post to head into an empty net. Greenock’s keeper was called into action on numerous occasions pulling of fine saves to deny the Beith strikers. Off went McIvogue, Barnes and Gault for Bowie and two trialists. Black’s shot in the 75th minute was easily saved after being found by Bowie. Greenock restored the 4 goal cushion with ten minutes remaining after a dazzling run by Black found Dow who neatly played in Mark Bowie to calmly pick his spot past the onrushing keeper. A three goal blitz in the last 5 minutes made the score look a little bit more respectable for Beith, the first in 86 mins, a neat one-two results in John Craig scoring to make it 5-2. A minute later it was 5-3 after a mix-up between Greenock’s trialist keeper and trialist right-back lets Beith's Robbie Cameron with an empty net to score in. A penalty conceded by the trialist centre-half after a push allows Derek McCulloch to score from the spot.
