Greenocks strikers prepare for another attack

Greenock travelled to East Kilbride for there first game under the charge of Sammy Casement looking for much needed points to drag them out of the relegation zone. With a change in formation to 4-4-2 Greenock got off to the best possible start when they took the lead after 3 minutes. The ball was switched from right to left where Scott Foreman swung in an inch perfect cross for Andy Monaghan to head into the keepers botom right hand corner from 6 yards out. Greenock then soaked up some East Kilbride pressure and had keeper Kenny Meechan to thank for keeping there lead. He somehow got to a goalbound effort at his bottom right hand corner after a header from six yards out . Greenock were still causing some problems at the other end and were given the perfect opportunity to double there lead when McIntyre dispossesed the EK keeper after a bad touch only to be pulled down, leaving the referee no option but to point to the spot. After scoring 3 penalties in the previous meeting between the sides John Paul Dow stepped up but his weak affort was easily saved by the keeper. To the dismay of the Ek players and supporters the referee ordered a retake. This time Alan McIntyre took the responsibility, but again the keeper guessed right and parried his effort to Scott Foreman but his effort was also blocked by the keeper. Ek pressed for the rest of the half but never troubled Meechan in the Greenock goal.

Half-time 1 - 0

The second half saw East Kilbride change there shape and go with 3 strikers up to try and get back into the game but it was Greenock who created the better of the chances. First to threaten was Alan Mcintyre when he latched onto a long ball in behind the EK defence. With the keeper bearing down on him his toe poked effort went wide of the keepers right hand post. Graham Black came on to replace Andy Monaghan and was next to threaten. He ghosted in behind the EK defence but his lobbed effort went high. Ek created a few chances themselves and John Paul Dow was on hand to clear off the line when Greenock failed to clear a corner and Meechan was was again called into action when the East Kilbride Sub found himself one on one but Meechan saved down to his bottom right. Graham Black was again had a great opportunity to double Greenock's lead when he went one on one with the keeper but after drawing keeper out he put his effort into the side netting. Greenock made the game safe with 15 minutes remaining. John Paul Dow sent a defence splitting pass down the left hand side. Alan McIntyre then sent in a great cross which found the left boot of Mark Bowie. His effort gave the keeper no chance as it bulleted into his left hand corner. Ek pushed to get back into it but failed to cause any real problems for the Greenock rearguard. Greenock could have probably extended there lead but the victory was well needed and lifts them out of the relegation zone.
