Greenock Juniors 1 - 0 Port Glasgow Juniors
Beatons Sectional League Cup
Greenock won this derby in front of a healthy crowd thanks to Mark Bowie's strike in the last five minutes. This was an evenly contested match with chances being missed at both ends. Port fieldied most of their new signings and if they keep up with these sort of performance's there is no doubt they will bounce back up into Division one. Port came closest to open the scoring with Jamieson but his header sailed wide, then from all of 30 yards Stewart struck a sweet free-kick which Threlfall done extremely well to push round the post. Greenock worked a few corner's but their finishing let them down and then Lappin sinned by hitting his strike over the bar.
Half-time 0 - 0
Greenock started the second half alot brighter and if it wasn't for the alert goalkeeping off Jackson Greenock would have found themselves in front. Port's Brown had a few effort's on goal but none to test the keeper, as did McIntyre at the other end. Both teams made changes with Nugent coming on for the Port and Black & Bowie on for Greenock. Nugent had two chance's the first easily dealt with by Threlfall and the second sailing over fron 25 yards. Greenock's Black was finding lot's of space down the right but his crossing was letting him down, and it was Black who should have put Greenock in front but he dragged his shot wide when he could have easily scored or squared to one of the other forward's. With time running out and a share of the points looking like a fair outcome for both team's up stepped Greenock's Mark Bowie to pick his spot past Jackson after a fine run down the right by Black. Things were starting to get heated with Port earning a few caution's for some tough tackling on Black. Greenock held on for the first 3 points of the Beatons cup section.
