Monday 2nd May 2005 @ Southcroft Park, Rutherglen
Rutherglen Glencairn 1-1 Greenock Juniors
League Match

Greenock's scorer Aldo Mcintyre
Greenock went on there travels once again looking to get points to aide survival against a Glencairn side fighting for the same reason. Greenock got off to the worst possible start when they feel behind after only 10 minutes to a Paul Finnigan goal. A cross was swung in from the left hand side that the Greenock defence failed to deal with, and Finnigan was on hand to divert the cross past Meechan in the Greenock goal. After this Greenock began to take hold of the game but as has been the case throughout the season failed to seriously threaten the opposition keeper. Greenock almost went further behind just before half time when Mcilvogue got caught on the ball just inside his own half. With the glens midfieder bearing in on goal Meechan blocked the effort
Half-time 0 - 1
The second half saw Greenock come out looking alot more purposeful and they were soon back on level terms. A danagerous ball into the area was knocked home by McIntyre despite the best efforts of a glens defender on the line. Greenock were dominating the game at this point and looking to get thhemselves into a lead. Johnny Robertson was threatening on the left hand side while Power, Lappin and Gault were controlling the midfield. Mcintyre had a chance to get his and Greenock's second when he skipped past his marker in the box but his left footed effort sailed over the cross bar. Glencairn were still dangerous on the break but Greenock's back three of Mcilvogue, Docherty and Foreman were dealing well with the fast breaks. As the game wore on it became more stretched and Andy Monaghan almost found a way through when greenock broke quickly. He gathered the ball at the halfway line and strode forward with purpose. He unleashed a right footed effort from all of 30 yards that Rogers in the Glens goal well to tip onto the bar and behind. Strangely enought the match official missed the save and awarded a goal kick. Greenock had one more chance to grab all 3 points when the ball was worked from right to left where it fell to Johnny Robertson, he choose to cut back in onto his right when it might have been wiser to shoot with the left. The defender managed to do enough to out him off and the keeper gathered easily. With almost the last kick of the ball Glencairn could have stole all three points when a goal mouth scramble fell to the back post where a glens player looked certain to score but Meechan somehow managed to block. Overall Greenock will be disappointed not to have won all three points but must take the 2nd half performance into Wednesday's game away at promotion chasing Yoker.
