Shettleston 1-0 Greenock Juniors
League Match

Greenock went on their travels for their second meeting with Shettleston this season.  After a few disappointing results lately Greenock were looking to get their season back on track but it turned out to be the same problems as the previous weeks. Greenock started off the brighter of the sides and forced a couple of corners. The first chance came when jack played a ball in but McAllister couldn’t direct his header downwards. Aldo McIntyre then had a great opportunity to opening the scoring when he latched onto a Mark Bowie flick on but dragged his effort wide of the keeper’s left hand post. Shettleston then settled into the game and their first opportunity came when a harmless looking ball into the area saw keeper Meechan and Stephen Flynn collide. The ball ran free to the Shettleston number 11 but his effort went wide of the target. Graham Black looked lively for Greenock on the left and he tested the keeper when he cut inside and unleashed a fierce drive but the keeper held onto it well. Shettleston were probing away and created a few half chances but failed to cause Meechan any problems.

Half-time 0 - 0

As has become habit  of late, Greenock  started slow in the second half and conceded what turned out to be the winning goal. A corner from the right hand side was floated to the back post where the shettleston number 4 was on hand to knock home unchallenged. This again kicked Greenock into gear and they began to probe away again at the Shettleston rearguard without any real success. 20 minutes into the half Shettleston were reduced to 10 men when their diminutive left mid was sent packing for a second bookable offence. Shettleston at this point sat in deep to protect their lead as Greenock dominated possession. Chances fell for Black and McIntyre but both failed to hit the target. Shettleston despite being a man down we’re still dangerous on the break as Greenock pushed for an equalizer and the back three of Flynn, McAllister and Docherty we’re still being stretched. Mark Bowie had an effort on target late on but Greenock again failed to take anything  due to the finishing.
