Greenock Juniors 2-1 Vale of Leven
League Match

Martin Power scored Greenock's winner

Greenock had their second game at Ravenscraig in 3 days and were looking to build on Monday night's victory over Clydebank. The visitors on this occasion were Vale of Leven who like Greenock are in relegation trouble this year. The first half of this game was pretty uneventful with Greenock not creating anything or testing out Dennison in the Vale goal. Mark Bowie back in the starting lineup had to be replaced after only 4 minutes when he pulled a hamstring and was replaced by Andy Monaghan. Vale had the better of the chances and Meechan went close with a header but when the opener arrived it was a controversial one just prior to half time. Kenny Meechan in the Greenock goal had a kick out blocked by a Vale striker but in after collecting the ball again he told the ref in no uncertain terms what he felt about it and in turn the ref booked Meechan and awarded an indirect free kick to Vale. From this free kick Kevin Montague blasted high into the Greenock net to take Vale in at half time with the lead

Half-time 0 - 1

Greenock came out in more determined fashion at the start of the second half and put Vale on the back foot from the off. It didn't taker long for the equaliser to come and it came after good build up play. A throw in to the feet of John Paul Dow was laid off to Gordon Lappin. He skipped past a Vale defender before burying his shot beyond Dennison> Greenock did not settle for this and continued to press the visiting defence and got there just rewards after 66 minutes. Graham Black picked out Gault from a corner and he had a volley at goal that was saved by Dennison only to see it roll to Martin Power who made no mistake from 3 yards out to the delight of the Greenock supporters. Vale tried to get back into the game but it was Greenock who almost extended there lead when the ball was hammered into a crowded Vale penalty area and feel to Andy Monaghan who buried with his right foot, but to his dismay the referee chalked off the effort for offside. Graham Balck then had another chance to settle things when he had a volleyed effort sail over from Meechan's kick out Vale tried in vain to get the equaliser but the Greenock defence stood strong to put another 3 points on the board.
